

Stanley Milford Baker was born April 27, 1955. Receiving honors in instrumental and vocal music in the Winfield (Alabama) City Schools, he later entered the University of Alabama's Bachelor of Music curriculum in Organ Performance studying with J. Warren Hutton. During this time Mr. Baker won several organ playing competitions, and was admitted into Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honorary Society and, in 1978, was graduated cum laude.
An active recitalist, Mr. Baker's music career took him from Tuscaloosa (St. Stephens Episcopal) to Birmingham (Avondale United Methodist Church) to Aiken South Carolina (First Presbyterian) where he was in residence for five years and an officer in several music and arts related organizations including the Augusta (Georgia) Chapter for the American Guild of Organists as Sub-Dean and Dean.
Following the completion of a Masters in Church Music at Westminster Choir College in 1987, Mr. Baker worked in Roanoke, Virginia, as Minister of Music at St. John's Episcopal Church where he instituted the Music at St. John's series of evensongs, organ recitals and choral concerts including such artists as the Clare College Choir of Cambridge, England. During this time he was appointed conductor of the Bach Choir of Southwestern Virginia which presented nine programs under his direction.
Mr. Baker is currently the Director of Music and Organist at Centenary, where he conducts an active program of several choirs. He also oversees a summer music series of organ, choral and instrumental programs and hosts occasional visiting artists.
